... The kings of olden days felt quite secure going to battle on their horses and chariots.  But David says that he trusted in the name of the Lord more than his horses and chariots.  That does not mean that he did not use horses and chariots.  Instead, it means even with all these, he chose to base his confidence of winning the battle on the name of the Lord.  The name reflected the character of a person. So to trust in someoneís name would be to trust his character.  David declares that he trusted in the character of God, who is Almighty and eternal.  Beloved, it is quite easy for us to trust our alarm systems, surveillance cameras or our wealth, health, job and our education.  Trust in these things can fail us in many ways.

This does not mean that we have to do away with all these things.  But we need to remember that placing our greatest level of trust in these things will eventually disappoint us.  However, trusting the name of the Lord Almighty will give us the greatest safety and security.  He has never failed us and He never will.  What a word of encouragement for us in these uncertain days!  Let us take time this month and frequently be in His Word and in His presence so that we know Him better and hence trust Him more than ever before.
