Wednesday, January 15 || REJECT AND REPEL FEAR!

“God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of self-discipline.” - II Timothy 1: 7

When we pass through the times of crisis, the first instinct that naturally comes to us is fear. But fear is opposite to faith.  Fear pulls down our spirit and makes us insecure, whereas faith lifts up our sagging spirit and gives us a hope.  In today’s text, we read of prophet Elisha and his servant.  On seeing the horses and chariots sent by the King of Aram surrounding them, the servant was paralysed with fear and cried, “O my lord, what shall we do?”  But Elisha, the man of God answered him, “Don’t be afraid.” He did not see the army sent by the King of Aram, but he saw the horses and chariots sent by the Lord of heaven surrounding them! Halleluiah!  Someone said: “Fear is the person who comes without invitation!”  How true!  Fear always looks for an opportunity to enter inside a person even at the slightest move! Next in I Kings 17, we read about the encounter between Elijah, the prophet and the widow of Zarephath. The woman was obviously afraid of her future, because she had just a handful of flour and a little oil in her house which was barely enough for her and her son’s next meal.  Elijah, on the other hand, did not see her pathetic condition, but saw the hand of God who would be providing them with a continuous supply of oil and flour till the famine ended.  So he encouraged her saying, “Do not be afraid!”

Dear friends, let us never open the door to fear.  Let us reject it and repel it in an outright way.  In I Samuel 17, we read how the entire  army of Israelites, the young and the old, ran away in great fear, when they saw the Philistine giant Goliath.  But the little lad David was able to confront him fearlessly because he knew that the Lord was with him!  So let us not be captured by fear; in turn let us drive it away in the name of the Lord!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, when fear tells me, “God has left you,” let me not listen to it but open my ears to listen the gentle words of faith which says, “God loves you” and I am sure that this perfect love will cast away fear. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
