Fashion, cosmetics and gym industries are becoming multi-million dollar corporations. People are willing to spend a great amount in the hope of achieving a beautiful face and an attractive body! They want to halt the aging process through many beauty treatments. It seems, no one wants to grow old gracefully. However, I Samuel 16:7 says, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Dear friends, let us remember that the secret of true beauty lies not in undergoing beauty treatments and making one look gorgeous and glamorous. Proverbs 31: 30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” The woman who is mentioned in this chapter had discovered what true beauty was essentially about. She had known to fear God in her life and that external appearances were secondary to internal beauty. She also had known that her external beauty would not last forever; so she focussed her heart toward God and decorated it with love, faithfulness, generosity, compassion, wisdom, grace, and most of all the fear of God. Because of her humble yet dignified lifestyle she reaped blessings, praise and favor from God and men. In I Peter 3:3, Peter says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes.” Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God’s sight. So let us take more care to beautify our soul than our body.PRAYER: ¬Heavenly Father, I live in an age where people are becoming addicted to fashion and glamour. Let me beautify my soul with the virtues that please You, instead of transforming my external appearance according to worldly standards. Amen.
