Wednesday, April 16 || HOW TO RESPOND WHEN TREATED UNJUSTLY

Read : I Peter 2: 21-23
“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. ...” - Isaiah 53: 7
Isaiah prophesied that Christ would not open His mouth to defend Himself, even in the face of death. Hundreds of years later that came true when Jesus stood in front of His accusers. Matthew 26:63 says, “But Jesus remained silent.” Matthew 27:12 says, “When He was accused by the chief priests and the elders, He gave no answer.” Mark 15: 5 says, “But Jesus still made no reply.” Luke 23:9 and John 19:9 say, ”But Jesus gave him no answer.”
When Peter wrote to the persecuted Christians in the first century, he mentioned the example of Jesus for how to respond when we are attacked for our faith. (I Peter 2:21-23) He says, following Jesus means that sometimes we will suffer even when we have done nothing wrong. People close to us would turn against us, ridicule us and abandon us. How would we respond them? When we are insulted, our natural response is to return an insult for an insult. But Jesus chose a better way. When He stood before Pilate and Herod, and when He faced the jeering mob, He uttered no insults, He made no threats. When they scourged Him, He did not retaliate. When the soldiers put the crown of thorns on His head, when they drove nails in His hands and feet, He did not curse them. As a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth. (Isaiah 53: 7)
Dear friends, the real test of our faith comes during the most difficult times. When we are mistreated, let us not retaliate, but leave the matter in God’s hands who judges justly.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You were punished unjustly. You were betrayed, beaten and crucified by cruel people. You did not curse them or punish them. Help me to follow Your example, give me Your grace to forgive them that mistreat me and turn against me. Amen.
