Want To Be Happy? Help Others! 30 Sep 2024

Read: Titus 3: 1- 8

Verse: " For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2 : 10)

Every year a farmer brought his corn to the State fair where it won the best corn award. One year, a newspaper reporter interviewed him and found that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbours. "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are competing with you each year?" asked the reporter. The farmer said, "The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbours grow inferior corn, cross pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbours to grow good corn.

Dear friends, the farmer was very much aware of the fact that unless his neighbor's corn improved, his corn would not improve either. So he gave them a helping hand to increase the quality of their corn. We learn a life lesson from this farmer's attitude. If we want to live in peace with our neighbors, we must help them to live at peace. We should be eager to do good deeds. We should not in any way be a stumbling block to others. In his letter to Titus, Paul advises as follows: "In everything set them an example by doing what is good." (Titus 2: 7) Not only that, he also instructs Titus to remind the people to be ready to do whatever is good. (Titus 3: 1) He concludes his letter to Titus saying that our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives. So, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people. Let us help others to live well and find happiness.

Prayer: Dear Lord, let me not be self centered, but share with others, all the blessings I receive from Your hands. Let me not be a stumbling block to others. Help me to be an example by doing what is good. As far as possible, let me be at peace with everyone. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
