SERVICE BEGINS AT HOME
“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
- Mark 10: 45
Someone said, “Sacrifice is the only status symbol in the Kingdom of God.” Jesus said that servanthood makes a person great. But we must remember that servanthood should start from our home. Some people are willing to do any help for their church leaders as a ministry, but are reluctant to run even a small errand at home. They gladly roll the mats, clean cobwebs and dust the furniture in the church, but are unwilling to wash their own dirty plates at home. There are some others who love to do ministry
among the non-believers, in the villages and in remote places. But they never even attempt to say a word about Jesus to their own unsaved family members. This does not mean that we should not do service to others; only that we should serve our family members too with the same humility and enthusiasm. They are after all our own kith and kin who need our help in many special ways. In Mark 5, we read about a man who was demon possessed. Jesus cast a legion of demons out of him. (v. 15) After he was set free, the man wanted to follow Jesus wherever He went. He begged Jesus to take him along. But Jesus told the man, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” (v. 19) So, first let us share our spiritual blessings and our spiritual experiences with our family members. Let us serve them with love.
Dear friends, when we serve one another in love, our relationship strengthens. So let us make ourselves available to our family in all possible ways, and help them draw nearer to Jesus by our way of life.PRAYER: Father God, let me not be willing to extend my services only to saints and servants of God, but give me the humility to serve my own kith and kin also. Let me share all the spiritual blessings that I have received in Christ and draw them closer to You. Amen.
