Read: Acts 2: 1-4
“Not giving up meeting together, ... but encouraging one another. ...”
- Hebrews 10: 25
Koinonia is the term that denotes fellowship. It is the essence of Christianity. I Corinthians 1: 9 says, “God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.” Fellowship is God’s calling. We as children of God are called to have fellowship with the Triune God. I John 1: 3 says, “Our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ,” and II Corinthians 13: 14 says, that fellowship is also with the Holy Spirit. Secondly, we should have fellowship with other believers. In Acts 2: 42, we read that the early Church grew in fellowship. The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachings and to the fellowship of the breaking of bread and to prayer. In I Thessalonians 5: 11, Paul says that we should encourage and build up one another. In Romans 12: 18 he says, “Live in harmony with one another.” In Galatians 6: 2 he says, “Carry one another’s burden, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” When we have fellowship with other believers, we learn to pray. We are comforted and edified by others’ lives and testimonies. We are strengthened in our spirit and we grow in our spiritual life. We not only benefit, but we also become channels of blessings to others!
Dear friends, let us not neglect fellowship. Someone said, “A man’s power and usefulness come not in isolation, but through union and cooperation with others.” Let us meet our fellow believers, whenever we get opportunities. Let us love, serve, bless and care for them as Jesus did.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, what great strength I derive when I have companionship with You! What a great privilege You have given me! Thank you, Lord. Let me have a loving fellowship with my fellow believers, care for them, edify them and be a blessing to them. Amen.
