Read: I Timothy 2: 1-8
“The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases Him.”
-Proverbs 15: 8
In the Bible, we read about many men who interceded with the Lord on behalf of others, and the Lord was good enough to answer their prayers. In Genesis 20: 17, 18, we read that God had closed up the womb of everyone in Abimelech’s household, but when Abraham prayed the Lord healed them. In Genesis 18, we read how Abraham pleaded with God for Lot and his family, that they should be saved from the destruction the Lord was about to bring on Sodom. The Lord heard Abraham’s prayer and rescued them. In Numbers 12, we read about Moses and Miriam. The Lord inflicted Miriam with leprosy for talking ill about His servant Moses. But when Moses cried out to the Lord, “O God, please heal her!” He listened to his earnest prayers and healed her. We all know that when Job prayed for his friends, the Lord heard him and not only blessed his friends, but also made Job prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before. (Job 42: 10)
Dear friends, people sometimes ask us to pray for them. When they do so, they are willing to share something that they feel is too big for them to carry on their own. Let us not treat that responsibility lightly. When we say we will pray, let us mean it. Let us not treat it casually. Let us not give ourselves a chance to forget. Let us write it down and keep a prayer list. Seeing God in action is a great reminder that prayer is an active not a passive response to those in need. So let us stop just talking about prayer - and PRAY!
PRAYER: Almighty God, James 5: 16 says, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” When people share their burden with me and ask me to pray for them, let me do so sincerely. I know that You will certainly hear me and bring abundant blessings into their lives. Amen.
