Tuesday, December 10 || COME WHAT MAY - FOLLOW JESUS! DON’T TURN BACK!

“Come, follow me” Jesus said. ...” - Matthew 4:19

In today’s text we read that wherever Elijah went, Elisha his successor followed him. When Elijah went to Bethel, Elisha declared, “As surely the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” When Elijah went to Jericho, Elisha again declared. “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” And again, when God sent Elijah to Jordan, Elisha followed him saying, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” And finally, when Elijah asked Elisha what he wanted before he would be taken to heaven, the faithful Elisha replied, “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit.” And because of his faithfulness, Elisha received the blessing!

Dear friends, we must be prepared like Elisha to go anywhere at any time for God. We need to fix our eyes on Him and follow Him persistently. We need to climb any mountain, walk any path, hurdle any obstacle that comes our way in order to follow Him. This is what God desires and that is what pleases Him. If we desire earnestly to seek God, He will certainly grant us the double portion of His blessings. Elisha persisted till the end. But Peter, who told Jesus, “Even if all fall away ... I never will,” failed in his commitment. Do we have a steadfast spirit in following the Lord? Do we hunger for His presence in our lives? May God give us grace to stand firm in our commitment.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, how persistent and steadfast Elisha was in following Elijah in order to receive double portion of His blessings! Let me not be distracted by the world, but follow You till the end of my life faithfully and inherit all Your blessings. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
