THINGS THAT GOD HATES!
“There are six things the Lord hates; seven are detestable to Him.” - Proverbs 6:16
The Lord loves justice, mercy and integrity - but there are certain things which are detestable to Him.
First and foremost, He hates idolatry. In Jeremiah 44:4, He said, “Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, “Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!“ But they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods. In Deuteronomy 7:25, He commanded the Israelites, “The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, … for it is detestable to the Lord your God.” Secondly, God hates pride. In Amos 6:8, the Lord Almighty declared, “I abhor pride,” and in Proverbs 8:13, the Lord said, “I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” Thirdly, in Isaiah 61:8, the Lord said, “I hate robbery and iniquity.” Fourthly, in Zechariah 8:17, the Lord said, “Do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this.” Fifthly, Proverbs 12:22 says, “The Lord detests lying lips.” Sixthly, Proverbs 11:20 says, “The Lord detests men of perverse heart.” Seventhly, Proverbs 11:1 says, “The Lord detests dishonest scales.” Deuteronomy 25:14-16 says, “Do not have two different measures in your house - one large, one small. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures. ... For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly,” and in Proverbs 6:16-19, the wise man lists seven things that are detestable to Him - haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
Dear friends, do we have any of these qualities that the Lord hates? Let us not provoke the anger of the Lord by doing things that He detests.PRAYER: Loving Father, I do many things which You hate; I tell lies, and sometimes I am dishonest in some of my dealings. I harbor bitterness and I give priority to certain things than honoring You. Let not Your wrath be poured upon me. Forgive me. Amen.
