LET ME NOT WANDER FROM YOUR COMMANDMENTS, LORD

“The Word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.“ - Deuteronomy 30: 14

Obedience to God and His Word is never an option for believers.  The term ‘obedience’ and related terms occur more than 350 times in the Bible; the majority of these are in the OT.  In the Bible, the concept of obedience is like this - what God had spoken, He expected His people to hear and to do as He commanded. Obedience was the main issue when God created Adam

and Eve, and placed them in the Garden of Eden.  Because they failed to obey, their sin brought condemnation on the entire human race, and they became separated from God.  God expected Adam and Eve to hear His warning and to obey His instructions.  He expected the same from Israelites, His chosen people. The commandment which the Lord gave them was not too difficult for them, nor was it out of reach. (Deuteronomy 30: 11)  God was not asking something impossible of His people.  It was not in heaven, for it had been already revealed, neither it was beyond the sea that they needed to travel for instruction, but the Word was given to them personally from Mount Sinai.

Dear friends, today God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible.  The Bible has made itself much too plain for anyone to claim ignorance.  It speaks powerfully of judgment against sin, but also promises forgiveness of sin.  What we need to know about God and His will for us is clearly written in Scripture.  But the problem is that many Christians do not take time to read it.  The Lord wants us to read His Word, understand His plan and purpose clearly, so that we may love, obey and cling to Him.  Let us make a decision today to heed to His voice and take a step of heartfelt obedience to Him.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I want to learn and experience more of You. Help me to read Your Word, which You have given in my hands, so that I will grow in my understanding of You and Your plan for my life.  Let me have an obedient heart, not a rebellious one.  Amen.
