Thursday, January 16 || INTERCESSION – THE TRIANGLE OF PRAYER

“… how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!”        (Matthew 7: 11)

Intercession is laying down our life for our friend; it is bearing one another’s burden.  The parable in Luke 11: 5-10 illustrates the power of intercession involving three partners. Here intercession is a triangle of prayer – one person, going to another person, to get bread for a third person.  Let us think of the situation mentioned in this parable. The hour is inconvenient – it was midnight. A friend of a certain man knocks on his door after undertaking a long tedious journey. He looks obviously tired and weary. The host’s heart is filled with compassion. He goes to the kitchen only to see every vessel empty. He returns disappointed. His friend’s hungry face keeps troubling him. He comes up with a solution. “I’ll go to my friend’s house. He will certainly help me.” He then goes to his friend’s house and knocks on his door and explains his situation. The man answers from inside saying, “Don’t bother me. I’ve already locked the door and the children are sleeping.” But his friend doesn’t seem to leave. He stubbornly persists. Why? He wants desperately to feed his midnight visitor because the need was urgent.

Dear friends, Jesus said intercession should be like this. It should be a stubborn and desperate prayer. Let us keep praying to our heavenly Father for our friends, our neighbors and our colleagues till we get an answer from Him, be it for their salvation, their health, or for any other need.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, when my friend knocks at my door and when I find him hungry and deprived, let me not harden my heart, but take it as my responsibility to come to your presence and pray for his need. Let me not quit till I get your blessings for him. Amen.
