Read: Luke 10: 38-42
DID YOU SPEND YOUR QUIET TIME WITH THE LORD?
“Cause me to understand the way of Your precepts, that I may meditate on Your
wonderful deeds.” (Psalm 119: 27)
The Bible is a gift given to us by the Lord. There are three conditions we need to fulfill when we come to read it. First, we must come with an open mind and with honesty. If we have an “I–know-it-all” attitude, we cannot be benefited in any way by reading the Bible. However, if we come with humility to learn, the Lord will teach us as He has promised. (Matthew 7:7) He will reveal to us the things which are hidden. Second, we must come with surrendered will. This means, saying gladly to our heavenly Father, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” God demands the wholehearted consent of our will. Indeed the unwillingness to obey God’s revealed will is the biggest cause of spiritual blindness in the world today. So when we approach the Bible, we must come with a readiness to act upon whatever God asks us to do. Third, we must come with faith to believe. Hebrews 11: 6 says, “Anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists.” God desires that we believe Him fully and trust Him implicitly. The simple unquestioning trust of a small child is what delights His heart.
So, Dear friends, let us have the desire to read the Bible every day. Let us find a quiet place free from the distractions of the world and read the Living Word with reverence and faith. As a rule, the quiet time should be a daily time. If we decide that we don’t have time for God, then how can we really expect Him to talk to us and to meet with us? James 4: 8 says, “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” Let us humble ourselves and open up our minds to receive with faith what the Lord tells us through the verses of the Scriptures.PRAYER: Dear God, when I open the Bible, open my eyes and my heart to understand Your will. Help me to obey what You say and receive by faith what You promise. Let me not neglect reading the Bible everyday on any account. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
