JESUS NEEDS YOU INSPITE OF YOUR SHORTCOMINGS
“He appointed twelve that they might be with Him, and that He might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.” (Mark 3:14, 15)
Jesus’ disciples were not highly qualified men. Nor were they affluent or worldly wise. Most of them were uneducated and ordinary fishermen, and they had their own limitations and faults.
Firstly, they had lack of understanding. Once when Jesus warned them to watch out for the yeast of Pharisees and that of Herod, they thought He was rebuking them for not bringing bread with them. Amazed at their lack of understanding, Jesus said, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?” (Mark 8: 17, 18) Secondly, they had lack of humility. Once they argued among themselves about who was the greatest. (Mark 9:33, 34) Thirdly, they had lack of faith. Once, when the boat in which they were travelling was caught up in a storm, they were scared to death without realizing that Jesus the Lord was with them. Jesus asked them, “Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40) Fourthly, the disciples had lack of commitment. When a crowd armed with swords and clubs came to arrest Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, all of them deserted him and fled. (Mark 14:50) In spite of all these shortcomings, Jesus did not condemn them. On the other hand, He encouraged them, prayed for them, and set an example for them with His life.
Dear friends, Jesus needs us to do His kingdom work. Let us not worry about our educational status or financial status. All that our Lord needs is our commitment to serve Him faithfully. Let us offer to be used by Him as we are.PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to have the great privilege of serving You, but I lack many things – I am not excellent, I do not have good oratorical skills, I am an introvert. But I offer myself to You to be used by You. Accept me and use me as You will. Amen.
