HE IS A FAITHFUL GOD
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love. ...” - Deuteronomy 7: 9
Israel was about to enter the Promised Land after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness while a rebellious generation died off. Before they entered into the land, Moses delivered a series of sermons to them. These were given to the generation of Israelites born during the wilderness wanderings, who had either been very young or not yet born, when the Law was first given to Israel in Sinai. This generation needed to know that God was with them just as He had promised. So Moses reminded them that God is faithful, they can rest in Him, trust His Word and depend on His power. He will see them through whatever may come their way.
Dear friends, we too need this kind of reminder today. First, we need to remind ourselves that the Lord has set His love upon us, and second, He has chosen us among all people as His treasured possession. God told Israel that He did not choose them because they were so many of them. In fact they were the fewest of all people. God chose them because He loved them. In the same way, God did not save us because He saw something good in us. In fact the Bible says, there is no good about us. (Romans 3: 23) God did not save us based on anything we did, we said, we possessed - God chose us because He loves us. He has promised that He will never fail, and that He is with us till the very end. So let us be encouraged. The God whom we serve is faithful. His faithfulness is unlimited, unfailing and abounding. PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for the assurance that I can depend on You, on Your power and Your promises. Though I do not have anything good in me, still You love me and have chosen me as Your treasured possession. Let this confidence enable me to march forward victoriously in my life’s journey. Amen.
