Sunday, April 27 || SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD

Read : Proverbs 23: 12-19

“He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.”

- Proverbs 13:24

In today's text, we find the wiseman advising a parent to use corrective measures in the right proportion and with the right intention so that the child may be led in such a way to choose the path of righteousness and escape death. We must know that an unbriddled horse always goes berserk to its own detriment. Likewise, a child left to his own ways will fall into severe temptations of this evil world and commit sins that may spoil his health, killing him at an early age, bringing untimely death. The second reason why we should correct a child is that by committing sin, he not only corrupts his body but he also dies in his soul, thus bringing condemnation on himself. He has no other choice but to go to the place of eternal condemnation - the hell - and to be tortured in the blazing fire. Yes, a timely chastisement is worth a million, as it will prevent a child from indulging in perilous sins.

So, dear friends, it is high time we stop pampering our little children, and start correcting them when they go wrong or do wrong. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old, he will not depart from it." Let us not think that by doing so we are standing in their way. In fact, we are paving the way for their bright future here and hereafter. May the Lord give us, as responsible parents, the wisdom to save our children from death and hell.

PRAYER:  Dear God, help me to teach my children the righteous path they have to take in order to escape eternal hell and condemnation. Let me not think that I should not stand in their way, but let me understand that by correcting them in time I only pave the way for their bright future. In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
