Saturday, November 30 || MOCKED? RIDICULED? RIDE OVER IT!!

Read: Nehemiah 6: 15-16

“... Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? ...”

- Nehemiah 4:2

Sometimes we get into situations which seem to be out of restoration limits. We think that nothing could ever be done to rebuild that which we have lost. But, lessons from the book of Nehemiah give us the confidence that with the help of our Lord and with a wholehearted commitment and unity, we will surely bring back the lost splendor. What did Nehemiah do? First of all, he sat at the feet of the Lord with humility and tears. He asked for His help to rebuild the ruined walls of Jerusalem. Secondly, he mobilised resources from his own people and also the royal provisions. Thirdly, he went to Jerusalem and took stock of the situation. He assessed, and then he planned. Things did not go smoothly even after that. They started the work. But they faced much ridicule and mockery. Sanballat ridiculed them saying, “What are those feeble Jews doing? ...Will they finish the work in a day?" But Nehemiah was unmoved and continued the work of the Lord. He allotted a 'portion' of the work to each family. He earmarked the area of operation and the people themselves came forward voluntarily to take up the assignment. And they did finish the work in a record time of just 52 days! How? Because the Lord helped them, the leaders encouraged them and the people worked in unity without hesitation. Above all they rode over the ridicule and mockery.

Dear friends, do you think that it is impossible to restore what you have lost?  Do not give up hope.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, seek His help and then carry on with your efforts.  You will face ridicule and discouragement. But, persevere in prayer and action till you reach your goal. God is with you and His promises are there to strengthen you.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me the confidence of Nehemiah and his team that I may also not worry when ridiculed and discouraged by others. Help me to keep praying and work without tiring with the power of Your Spirit, till I reach the goal. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
