When Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to hide from Israel’s enemies, the Midianites, the angel of the Lord appeared to him and called him, “Mighty Warrior!” This would seem ridiculous because here Gideon was threshing wheat out of fear in an inconspicuous place hoping to finish his work quickly and avoid being detected by the marauding bands of the enemies. However, the omniscient Lord saw Gideon for what he would become, not for what he was at present. In short, God recognized in Gideon something that Gideon did not see himself.
Dear friends, our God is an awesome God. While others look at us and see our flaws and failures, God looks at us and sees our possibilities in Christ. He sees us for what we can become as He works in our lives. He is in the business of taking “nobodies” and transforming them by His power and presence into “somebodies.” He sees us where we are, be it the winepress or on some mundane job. He knows our weaknesses, our shortcomings, but He does not say, “If you get those things out of your life then I will be able to use you.” He takes our inadequacy and transforms it into His adequacy. He does not save us and use us for what we are, but we may become His grace. Isn’t that an encouraging news to us today! Let us not esteem ourselves low because God can and He will do extraordinary things in and through our lives if we are willing to submit to the Master’s touch.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You saw the fearful Gideon as a mighty warrior because You could see him beyond the present - as the deliverer of Israel. You do not see me as the world sees. You know my weaknesses and failures. Yet You can do great things through me. Help me submit to You completely. Amen. Honey Drops || Daily Devotion
