Saturday, December 07 || The Test Of Spirituality

Read: John 21:15-17

"...But the greatest of these is love [I Corinthians.13:13] Do everything in love"

- I Corinthians 16:14

In todays text we read about our Lords resurrection appearance. After spending three and a half years with the Lord, Peter disowned Jesus thrice before His crucifixion. Yet the Lord made no reference of this to Peter when He first met him after His resurrection. Instead, He asked him one simple question - Simon, son of John, do you truly love me more than these?

Dear friends, love for Christ is the real test of ones spirituality. Possessing a theological degree or being in the top most position in the church - all these do not indicate that a person is spiritual. One may be a full time worker for years together, but that does not make him spiritual. One may attend spiritual meetings regularly, or he may have profound Bible knowledge, but none of these is of any account. The test of genuine spirituality in Gods sight is one thing and one only - the extent of our love for Him. The Lord rebuked the church at Ephesus because they had grown cold in their love for their Lord. In all other aspects it was a remarkable church but they had lost their first love! Does this not clearly show us that the Lord cares more for the devotion of our hearts than all our other activities? So let us commit our lives to love the Lord with our whole being. Let us think often of the Lords immeasurable love for us and praise Him for the same.

Prayer: Almighty God, let my love for You increase day by day. Let not the worries of this life, the temptations of the world or name or fame dampen my love for You. Let not my love grow cold. Rekindle my first love for You and may it burn continuously. In Jesus name I pray. Amen .
