THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB BREAKS THE POWER OF SIN
“The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. ...” - Exodus 12: 13
The Lord commanded the Israelites that each man should take a lamb for his family, one for each household. He should then kill the lamb, take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of his house. Upon seeing the blood, the death angel would pass over their house. No destructive plague would touch the Israelites when the Lord strikes all the firstborn sons of Egyptians. The Lord would deliver them through the blood of the Passover lamb.
Note that, this act would require faith in the Word from the Lord. Just intellectual acceptance would not be sufficient. One had to believe the Word about the blood of the lamb protecting the firstborn from death, and had to act on that belief by applying the blood of the lamb on the door frames. If anyone disputed it by saying, “It is not logical that sprinkling blood on the door frames would protect the firstborn from death,” his son would have died. It would not have been enough to say, “I believe,” orally and not apply the blood to be saved from the destroyer. The same is true with the blood of Christ.
Dear friends, perhaps you grew up in a Christian home and believe in Jesus in a general sense, but if you have not personally fled to the Cross, you will not be saved from wrath and judgment. Make a choice today! Acknowledge that you are a sinner and you need Christ. Abandon all trust in yourself or your good works as a means of salvation. Trust in Christ’s blood as God’s payment for your sins. Apply the blood of Christ in your heart by faith and you will be no doubt saved from God’s judgment. PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, the Passover is not primarily about the deliverance of Israel out of Egypt. Rather, its essential purpose is Your glorification and exaltation, O Lord. I do not just say, “I believe in Jesus,” but I now run to Your Cross in faith and apply Your blood in my heart. I confess that You are my Lord and my Savior. Amen.
