Monday, January 27 || NO REVIVAL WITHOUT PRAYER

Read :  Psalm 85: 1-9

“Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” - Psalm 85:6

“Revival, like salvation is grander, greater and more glorious than anything that can be said or written,” writes Selwyn Hughes.  From the Old Testament we see that the word “revival” comes from the root meaning “to live,” “The return of something to its true nature and purpose.”  Revival is the sovereign act of God.  Evangelism, counseling, preaching, teaching and other such things are the work that men and women do for God.  Whereas revival is a work that God does for men and women.  But revival can be transported to earth on the wings of fervent and believing prayer.  So, two factors should operate for revival to take place.  One is the sovereignty of God, and the other is the responsibility of man.  Whenever God wants to bring His redemptive work on this earth, He does not move independently but respects the principle of prayer.  He, therefore, touches the hearts of certain people to pray and then proceeds to accomplish His purpose of redemption.

Revival is not only a sovereign act of God, it is also a sudden move of God. It begins without warning. Act 2:1-2 says, that on the day of Pentecost when the disciples had gathered together in one place, suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven. When revival came to Wales and to other places, it came suddenly. Next, revival also begins in the most unlikely places. Pentecost began not in the majestic atmosphere of Solomon’s temple but in an insignificant place. For some reason, God does not cause revival to break out in a splendid cathedral or at a large Christian conference, but causes His fire to be praised out in a small prayer meeting where only a few are present. A Dutch businessman, Jeremiah Lanphier along with other people prayed for revival in his office. So mightily did the Spirit work that within six months more than 100,000 businessmen were crowding in prayer meetings all over the city.

Dear friends, let us pray with a great burden that God should send revival in our towns and in our churches.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I long for great revival in my church and in my town. Pour out the spirit of prayer and supplication on me and my praying partners. Hear our prayers and accomplish Your purpose on earth. Send us Your sovereign act of revival. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
