Read: II Chronicles 7:17-22
"...Keep His commands and obey Him; serve Him and hold fast to Him." - Deuteronomy 13:4
Many of the promises in the Bible are conditional. In II Chronicles 7:14, the Lord told Solomon that He would bless the land if His people, the Israelites fulfill certain conditions. First of all, the Lord said that His people, who were called by His name, should humble themselves. James 4:6 says, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride and arrogance are some of the things which the Lord hates. Secondly, the Lord asked His people to seek His face and pray. In Psalm 27:4 David says, One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Kings, in those days desired two things chiefly - one was to extend their territory and the other was to accumulate riches. But David did not pray for any of these. Even though he was hedged in by enemies, he states that his primary desire would be to dwell in the Lords presence, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. Thirdly, the Lord commanded His people to turn from their wicked ways. When Gods people go astray He is grieved intensely because He loves them so much. He wants them to repent from their sinful ways and hold fast to Him alone. If they do so, then the Lord promised that He would bless them and make them prosper.
Dear friends, if we want to be blessed by the Lord then we should have a humble heart, we should turn from our wicked ways and seek the Lord earnestly and live as God wants us to live. If these conditions are fulfilled, we shall surely receive the blessings promised.Prayer: Heavenly Father, let me not assume that I can inherit all the blessings that you have promised effortlessly, but give the wisdom to understand that I should live up to your standard and fulfil your commandments in order to be blessed by you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
