The next event on God’s end time calendar is the rapture of the church – it is the “catching up” of all believers for a glorious meeting with Christ in the air. Certain characteristics of rapture are - In the rapture only believers will experience resurrection and translation. The trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we, who are still alive, will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. This coming of Jesus will be accompanied by a “loud command,“ the voice of the archangel,” and the “trumpet call of God.” (I Thessalonians 4:16-17) Next, rapture is an imminent event. This means, it is an “any-moment” possibility. The slogan, “Perhaps today” is very apt. That is why our Lord Jesus instructed His disciples to be ready always for His return, underscoring this point through parables and illustrations. Next characteristic of rapture is, it will take the Lord’s people from the earth before his wrath is poured out upon it. It is a time of darkness and gloom for the unsaved, but for the redeemed it will be a time of deliverance and salvation. The prophecies of famine, earthquakes, celestial disturbances, fierce persecutions, moral degeneration – all are getting fulfilled which indicate that the Lord’s coming is very near. Above all, during rapture, the Holy Spirit will be taken away from the world, thus making it possible for the Antichrist to rule.
Dear friends, let us eagerly desire to participate in this glorious event – the rapture. Let our lives be worthy in the sight of the Lord so that He will grant us the privilege of catching up with Him in the mid-air when He comes.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to prepare myself in order to participate in the breath-taking rapture. Cleanse me by the blood of Jesus. Let me live a holy and blameless life every day so that I will not be left behind on any account. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
