Read: Romans 3: 19-26
Verse: " The righteous will flourish like a palm tree..." (Psalm 92:12)
Today's verse talks about two trees - a palm tree and a cedar. It says that the righteous will flourish like these trees. A person is not righteous on his own. All our righteous acts are like filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6) Romans 3:10 says, "There is no one righteous, not even one." "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." So, how then can we be made righteous? "We are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:23, 24) So because of God's grace we are made righteous.
Dear friends, Jesus Christ came in search of us, who were once in darkness and sin. He saved us and made us righteous. But that is not the end of our story. We should keep growing day by day spiritually. Why is the growth of the righteous compared to a palm tree? The palm tree is significant for its growth. Even if the conditions are unfavorable for it to grow, it keeps growing. Even in severe drought season, it does not stop its growth. Even if the dried leaves fall off, it keeps producing new fresh and green leaves. Even though its roots are fibrous, they go deep and wide so as to have a firm grip in the soil. That is the reason why palm trees are seldom uprooted even during a storm. Let us also, as righteous people, be like the palm trees in our spiritual lives. Even if our situations are adverse, if we are rooted strongly in the Lord, we will not be shaken and will keep growing. The Lord will satisfy our needs in the sun-scorched land and make us flourish each and every day.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I was once a sinner, but now You have made me righteous by washing me with Jesus' blood. It is purely by Your grace. Thank You Lord. Let not my spiritual growth stop with this, but let me be rooted in You and keep growing even in stormy circumstances. Amen.
