TRUST AND OBEY THE LORD
“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man. ...” - Acts 9:13
One day the Lord appeared to Ananias in a vision and told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, ...” (Acts 9:11) Ananias could not believe his ears. He had received up-to-date information about this Saul who had persecuted the believers, and even murdered Stephen. Ananias had also heard the latest news that Saul had come to Damascus with the authority from the chief priests to arrest all the believers there. How could God ask him to go
and meet that Saul?! Would not God have known about Saul’s visit to Damascus and his motive?! In righteous anger, Ananias gently began to remind God about it.
Dear friends, many times we, like Ananias, tell the Lord what He already knows, thinking that He is not aware of anything. We forget the fact that God knows the end from the beginning, and He is in control of every situation. It is time we check ourselves before speaking to the Lord. It is good to be quick to obey - without asking question. Ananias must have had doubts and fears deep inside his heart, as to how Saul would entertain him, but he trusted God’s Word and His promise and obeyed Him implicitly. This is in stark contrast to what Jonah did! When the Lord asked him to go to Nineveh, he just ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. (Jonah 1:2,3) Not only that, when the Lord chose to spare Nineveh after Jonah’s message of repentance, he reacted with anger, whereas in the case of Ananias we read that when he met Saul after his conversion, he called him affectionately as “Brother Saul!” Let us also not dictate terms with God or question His will, but surrender ourselves to Him in total obedience like Isaiah who said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8)
PRAYER: Almighty God, whenever You call me to do Your service, I try to act smart. I either try to give lame excuses, or I in my stupidity try to instruct You. Forgive me. Let me obey You implicitly without any question. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
