SERVE WITH COMMITMENT! DON’T BACK OUT!!

When a young African got converted from Islam to Christianity, his wife and his five children abandoned him. In spite of his sorrow, he continued to serve the Lord faithfully, growing in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Some months later, he felt that God was calling him to preach. In dedication to his task, he prepared himself spiritually and educationally. Carlos Owens, a missionary helped him to prepare his first sermon. But on Sunday morning, the young African did not make his appearance. After the worship service, the missionary went to his home only to find it empty. The next day, the African came to Carlos Owens’s home, his body beaten, bleeding and horribly bruised. He told Owens that on Saturday his brothers had come to his house, determined that he should not preach the gospel. They carried him to the woods, beat him severely, tied him to a tree and left. Finally, he somehow managed to set himself free from the bonds. Wounded, bleeding, bruised, he staggered a great distance to the home of the missionary Carlos Owens. As the missionary and his wife cleaned and dressed his wounds, the man looked up into their faces, his own face beaming with the joy of heaven, as he exclaimed, “Even if they kill me, I will still preach Christ!”
Dear friends, how is our commitment? Do we work just for namesake or with real zeal and enthusiasm? Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Especially when we work for the Lord, let us work with dedication and commitment even when circumstances are difficult and challenging. Let us persevere till the end and finally receive the crown of glory from our heavenly Father. PRAYER: Dear Lord, I have committed my life to serve You. Let me not become weary when I confront problems and persecutions. Let me not lose my zeal and dedication. Give me strength to persevere till the end and receive the reward from Your hands. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
