ANYTHING WE DO FOR GOD IS SMALL REPAYMENT FOR HIS WORK IN US
“... We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” - Luke 17: 10
The most ardent servant of the Lord would expect nothing of God except to be blessed by His abounding grace. They would say to Him, “We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” Service to God is a privilege that one should never feel that they deserve extra credit for serving Him! Our duty is, when we hear His command, we are to obey without question, hesitation or reservation. To declare that we are unworthy does not mean that we are not of any profit to the Master, but it means that we have to maintain a selfless attitude and a humble demeanor. This is the attitude a servant of Jesus should manifest to the world, because that is how Jesus walked on this earth. He came not to be served, but to serve. (Mark 10: 45) The true servant of Christ should not have any reason for pride. Self-importance must be plucked out by the roots, and in its place there must be a true sense of humility and unworthiness.
Dear friends, sometimes we get so puffed up about our years of sacrificial service that we think that God owes us something. But we have no claim on God. All that we have, we have received by grace. We were lost and we were on our way to hell, when God’s mercy rescued us. He graciously gave us the privilege of serving Him. Should we then feel proud of ourselves when we obey His commands? No, never. Instead, we are to say of ourselves, “Lord, I am just an unworthy slave who only did what I ought to have done.”
PRAYER: Dear Lord, let me at all times remember my lowly position before You. I admit that I am but dust and ashes in Your presence. You owe me nothing, but I owe You everything. I humbly confess that “I am Your unworthy slave.” Thank You for giving me the privilege to serve You. Amen.
