THE HOLY SPIRIT PRAYS FOR US TO THE FATHER

“... The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray ...”

The Holy Spirit helps in our weaknesses by praying with unutterable groans. We are weak when it comes to prayer. We are weak in our ability to know what we should ask. Many times, we do not know what we should specifically pray for. We are not omniscient. We do not know everything, nor can we see into the future. So we do not know whether the things we are asking for will turn out good or bad for us. But God knows our future. He is Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. He knows the end from the beginning, and He knows how all things will turn out. The basic principle of effective praying is that, it must be in harmony with the will of God. So the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in us, knowing our wants better, Himself pleads on our behalf with groaning. He alone knows how to interpret our needs, and He makes intercession within us, inspiring our yearnings. Sometimes darkness covers our mind, unbelief vexes our spirit, guilt troubles our conscience, and Satan hurls his fiery darts, preventing us to pray fervently. In this scene of confusion and distraction, when all seems going to the wreck, how kind, how gracious the Holy Spirit is that He comes to rescue us and teach us how to pray and what to pray.

Dear friends, have you gone to God sometimes in prayer when you actually did not know what to pray for?  All you could do was just go to Him and call Him, “Father!”  At times like this, the Spirit helps in our weakness.  The Spirit will put our word into a form, which God the Father understands.  The Spirit will ask for something concerning the situation we are trying to pray about.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, there are times when the situation is simply too complex. I am perplexed that I do not know what to pray for. I don’t know what would be the best and what is Your will for me. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, who comes to my aid and intercedes for me with groaning. Amen.
