NO LIFE IS MORE SECURE THAN ONE SHIELDED BY GOD
“... May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.“ (Ruth 2: 12)
This is the prayer of Boaz for Ruth. Boaz prayed that Ruth would be given the full reward by the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings she had come to seek refuge. Wing conveys the basic meaning of “to cover.” It is used in the Scripture as a beautiful illustration of several facets of the Lord’s care for His children. We must be familiar with the scene of how the baby chicks scurry under the mother hen’s wings when they sense danger. How warm, cosy and safe the chickens are, when they gather under the wings of their mother! The storm may roll through the sky, there may be a heavy downpour, the hawk may hover above, but the chickens are safe as the wings of their mother cover them securely.
This is a metaphor that speaks of God’s protection. Boaz pictured Ruth as a defenseless young bird safely under the wings of the Lord that spread over His people. Ruth had abandoned the security of her family in Moab, leaving everything that spoke of safety for a greater, more certain, safe refuge under the wings of the Lord. Boaz assured Ruth that her unselfish deeds would not go unrewarded.
Dear friends, in times of danger and distress, let us run to the Lord. He spreads His wings of protection and comfort over us. Enveloped by His feathers, we do not need to fear the difficult circumstances of life. Personal storms may rage around, but we are safe under the canopy of God’s constant care. Are you going through painful times? Nestle yourself under His wings. Take comfort - nothing could touch your life without His permission. PRAYER: Dear Lord, under Your wings I am safely abiding, though the night deepens and tempests are wild, still I can trust You. I know You will keep me safe, for You have redeemed me and I am Your child. So let me rest in confidence and be still. Amen.
