Sunday, March 30 || DO NOT HARBOR ANGER IN YOUR HEARTS!

Read : Matthew 5: 21-26
“... Anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.”
- Matthew 5:22
In this passage Jesus described a sinful experience that involved several stages.
First, the person had an angry thought for no reason.
Next, this exploded into angry words - “Raca” which means “an empty headed person - a fool.”
These words added fuel to the fire. And the anger of the person further flared up which resulted in fight and finally even in murder. I John 3:15 says that when we hate someone in our hearts it means that we have murdered them in our hearts. We need not necessarily murder physically someone in order to be branded as murderers. Jesus did not say in His sermon that anger leads to murder. He said that anger is murder. If that is so, how many countless number of times we would have murdered and still murdering people even our own kith and kin? Someone said, “Sermon on the Mount is more difficult to keep than the ten commandments, because in His sermon Jesus dealt with the attitudes and intents of the heart and not simply on external action.”
Dear friends, anger is a foolish thing. It makes us destroyers instead of builders. It robs us of our freedom and makes us prisoners. So let us deal with unholy and sinful anger honestly. Let us acknowledge and confess it to God. Let us get reconciled with others as quickly as possible as the longer we wait the worse the bondage becomes. We put ourselves into a terrible prison when we refuse to be reconciled. May the Holy Spirit guide us and strengthen us everyday to overcome angry thoughts and angry words.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me Your grace everyday to overcome anger. Whenever I get angry and hateful thoughts, help me to get rid of them and calm down. Let me not go the second stage and shout angry words at others. Help me to reconcile as quickly as possible. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
