Thursday, March 27 || WHO ARE WE TO BLAME GOD?

Read : Jonah 4: 1-11
“Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak with outstretched neck.” - Psalm 75:5
In the Bible, we read of some people who had the audacity to blame God. Let us consider Adam, the very first man whom the Lord created. When the Lord asked him whether he had eaten the forbidden fruit of the garden, Adam answered, “The woman YOU put here with me - she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it.” He did not have the humility to accept the mistake he had committed. But, he tried to corner God Himself! Next, we read about Jonah. Jonah chapter 4, verse 1 says, “But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry,” because his prophecy regarding Nineveh did not come to pass. The people of Nineveh repented from their sinful ways, and so the Lord did not bring upon them the punishment that He had foretold. Instead of rejoicing over the transformation that happened among the Ninevites, Jonah blamed God, “O Lord, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That was why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew you are a gracious and compassionate God, ... a God who relents from sending calamity.” How bold he was in justifying his action of disobeying God’s word and blaming Him! Thirdly, we read about the man who received one talent from his master. Instead of multiplying it , he buried it in the ground. And when the master questioned him, he did not admit his laziness but he blamed saying, “I knew that you are a hard man ... and so I was afraid.”
Dear friends, let us not blame God, neither His deeds, nor His character for our failures. Making such excuses is more than an attempt to protect our pride.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, let me not criticise You or Your deeds. Your ways are always perfect and Your wisdom no one can fathom. Strip off pride from me and help me to accept whatever You do or say with humility and obedience. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
