- Joshua 6: 1
When the Israelites came near Jericho they saw that it was tightly shut and that not a person could enter it. But they brought down its huge wall by doing whatever the Lord commanded them to do.
First, the Lord asked Joshua to consecrate himself. He asked him to take off his sandals. This means casting away the old carnal nature and getting transformed into the likeness of God. Hebrews 12: 14 says, “Without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
Second, the Lord wanted Joshua to believe His Words – He wanted him to be a man of faith. In Joshua 6: 2, He said, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands.” Note that the Lord did not say to Joshua, “I will deliver.” Instead He said, “I HAVE delivered.” God Himself had already defeated the king of Jericho and all its fighting men. The Israelites only had to go and capture it in obedience to the Word of God.
Third, the Lord said to Joshua, “March around the city,” (Joshua 6: 3) not once but seven times.
Fourth, the Lord asked the priests to blow the trumpets and the people to give a loud shout. And when they did so, the whole assembly of the Israelites witnessed in front of their eyes, the supernatural fall of the huge wall.
Dear friends, when problems threaten us, let us not run away or leave our efforts halfway through. Let us march ahead until we get the victory promised by our Lord.
PRAYER: Dear God, let me not become weary when I see huge mountains preventing me from inheriting the spiritual blessings You have for me. Let me instead, take the time to examine myself, consecrate myself and march onward with faith and determination till I get the promised victory. Amen.
