Friday, March 07 || DEAD TO SIN, ALIVE IN CHRIST

“... Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ  Jesus.” - Romans 6: 11

After we are saved, we learn many new spiritual things we never knew before.  We begin to learn more about God, His Son, His Holy Spirit and about ourselves.  The lessons we learn about ourselves can be sometimes very discouraging.  We learn that not only we have committed sin against God, but that also we have within us an evil nature that causes us to sin, and which is beyond our correction or improvement.  Our new desire to live a life pleasing to the Lord creates a struggle within us, because our old nature still loves to sin.  But then we realize that the sacrifice of Jesus which took away our sin has also dealt with our old evil, sinful nature in such a way as to give us victory and deliverance from its control.  As Romans 6:6 says, “Our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with.”  Not only our sins are forgiven, but also the old nature that caused them has been nailed to the Cross of Christ.  There are three things we learn from the passage -

First, old nature was crucified with Christ,

Second, we need to consider ourselves to be dead to sin and our relationship with it is broken,

Third, we should not let sin reign in our body.

Before, sin was our master, but it is master no longer, we need to treat it as dead.

Dear friends, note that  by the death of Christ we are brought into fellowship with God.  This is a joy which is unknown to the world and unavailable to the unsaved.  But let us rejoice because by means of sacrifice of Christ we have been brought close to God like never before.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, with heart and conscience set free I am able to consider the death of Christ in a new way.  His death is the way in which I am brought into Your fellowship.  This truth is unknown to the world, but I thank You for revealing it to me and helping me come closer to You.  Amen.
