Friday, December 27 || WHY ARE OUR PRAYERS NOT ANSWERED?

Read: Deuteronomy 6:13-19

“If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.”

- Proverbs 28: 9

There are certain times when our prayers actually displease God, and as a result, we do not get our prayers answered by Him. Scripture tells us that when we disobey God, our prayers will not be heard. We cannot receive all God has for us if we are living in disobedience. So, in order to grow in the Lord, it is important to keep asking God to show us what He wants us to do. Jesus said in Matthew 19: 17, “If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” Nothing would give us more peace and confidence than knowing we are doing what God wants us to do. God’s Word promises that by being obedient to His ways, we will find mercy (Psalm 28:6), peace (Psalm 37:37) and blessing. (Proverbs 29:18) But not living in obedience brings harsh consequences (Proverbs 15:10), unanswered prayers (Proverbs 28:9) and the inability to inherit the kingdom of God. (I Corinthians 6:9)

Dear friends, walking in obedience has to do not only with keeping God’s commandments but also paying heed to God’s specific instructions to us.  For example, if God has told us to stop doing certain type of work and take up a different job, if He has told us to move to another place or change the way we have always done something, and we do not obey Him, that is disobedience.  Whatever He asks us to do, let us remember, He does it for our greatest good.  God’s ways are always better than ours, and obedience to His Word clears the path for our prayers to be heard.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, keep me on the right path so that my prayers are not detestable to You. Teach me Your Word so that I understand it better every time I read it. Let me pay heed to Your voice and walk in obedience in every matter. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
