JESUS IS WITH US EVEN IN THE FURIOUS STORM
“Suddenly a furious storm came upon the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. ...”

W.M. Christie, who spent many years in Galilee says, “The storms on the Sea of Galilee are in many ways peculiar and sometimes the wind seems to blow from various directions at the same time, tossing the boat about. On one occasion, a group of visitors was standing on the shore at Tiberias, and noticing the glassy surface of the water and the smallness of the Lake they expressed doubts as to the possibility of such storms as those described in Gospels. Almost immediately the wind sprang up. In twenty minutes the sea was white with foam-crested waves. Great billows broke over the towers at the corners of the city walls, and the visitors were compelled to seek shelter from the blinding spray, though now 200 yards from the Lake side.” It must have been such a sudden storm which struck the Sea of Galilee on the day Jesus was crossing it with His disciples. So fierce was the sea and so high was the wind, the disciples thought that they would die.
Dear friends, this incident means something very practical to each one of us. As we face the storms of life we are terrified. There may be storms of sicknesses, financial crisis, loneliness and failures. These seem to hit us with great force at the most unexpected time that we lose our courage and become helpless. But let us remember that Jesus is always with us in our life’s boat. All we have to do is to just call on His name in faith and be sure that He can and does and will bring peace to us in the midst of any of the storms that come upon us. PRAYER: Dear God, when You are there with me nothing can harm me. I can never be separated from Your love and from Your presence. Let this thought calm my troubled soul while passing through the storm of life. Thank You for encouraging me today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
