Read: Luke 17:26-30
"...Say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and... live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age." - Titus 2:12
In Luke 17:26-30, Jesus tells us that the last days will be like the days of Noah and of Lot, in which people ate, drank, bought, sold, planted, built, and so on. If we observe carefully, things mentioned above are not sinful in themselves. They all are legitimate activities. Why then did Jesus mention these as being peculiarly characteristic of these sinful last days? Because the people in these last days would be more occupied with these legitimate activities that they would have no time for God at all. The devil would try to convince them to push God out of their lives all together.
Dear friends, let us compare this state of affairs with what we see in the world today. Dont we find a striking similarity in the attitude of people? Men are too busy to have time to listen to God. The spirit of the world has crept into the very heart of the believer. Even though science and technology have contributed many modern gadgets which save our time considerably, yet we always find ourselves rushing for time. Today we travel in faster modes of transport than our forefathers who used to travel by carts or carriages. They had to spend longer hours in doing household chores than us. Yet many of them found much more time for God than most of us find today, why? Because they set their priorities right. They put first things first. As a result they were able to see great revival those days. Let us examine our lives today and make a serious commitment to spend more time with God everyday in reading the Bible and in prayer.Prayer: Almighty God, help me develop a thirst for reading Your Word. Let me spend the prime part of my day, each day in fellowship with You. Let not spirit of the world overtake me and divert my attention from Your Word and from Your presence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
