Friday, April 25 || BE FILLED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

Read : Acts 2:1-4, 38-39

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses ...” - Acts 1: 8

The Bible uses the image of a dove for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is God in action. Creation came to be as “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” (Genesis 1:2) Then, when God chose His servants, the power of the Holy Spirit rested upon them. In Exodus 35:30,31 we read about Bezalel, whom the Lord chose for building His tabernacle. The Lord filled him with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts – to make artistic designs and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship.

In Judges 3:10, we read of Othniel. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him and he became Israel’s judge. He overpowered the king of Aram and delivered Israel from his hands. In Judges 6, we read that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Gideon and he became bold and courageous to defeat thousands of Midianites with just three hundred men. After the period of the Judges, the Spirit of the God was on His prophets and they warned the Israelites according to the counsel they got from God. These are the portraits of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.

In the New Testament, we read that the birth of Jesus Christ itself was by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit came upon Mary, the power of the Most High overshadowed her and she gave birth to Jesus – the Son of God. And Jesus Christ was full of the Holy Spirit while He ministered on earth. After He ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit, the Counselor, to the 120 disciples. Holy Spirit is the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge. He is the Spirit of strength, of love, of confidence. He is with us, within us. Let us allow Him to fill us.

PRAYER:  Almighty God, we thank You for sending the Counselor and Comforter - the Holy Spirit. Thank You for filling us up with His power and glory. Help us not to grieve Him, but to be led by Him every day so that we may walk in power and be Your witnesses, Amen.
